Dreadnought was lucky enough to speak to Neal E. Jarest from Opulence of Southern Pines. A previous officer in the US Army’s elite Special Ops, we were honoured when he decided to retail Dreadnought in his stores.
Your shop looks great, how did it all start?
My wife Tanda started the store as a Luxury Linen Store 18 years ago, after we had moved from USMA, West Point, NY when I was assigned to the Special Forces at FT Bragg, NC. In-conjunction of me retiring from the US Army Special Operations, we expanded buying our own building and opening a 2nd store location as well as an ecommerce website. The building we purchased was one of the first Standard Oil Gas Stations on the East Coast. We have kept a lot of the old gas station’s character which makes shopping with us an eclectic experience. We gradually built up of our product lines to include bed bath and table linens, home and personal fragrances, gifts, lingerie a baby section and many other nice luxuries. We have recently expanded to have a shop in shop with DUXIANA Beds. We started in the men’s grooming area initially importing Badger brushes, razors and soaps from Germany when there were no US Distributors. I use to have a Fish and Game License due to the Badger Fur Brushes to be able to get them through customs.
What makes your shop different from other men’s grooming outlets?
As stated above, our building is an old gas station. Also we only carry the finest of men’s grooming supplies, badger brushes and razors etc. Our assortment of products are from Germany, England, Scotland, Italy, USA. We try to accommodate the beginner to the experienced shave enthusiast with our selection of products and price points within the luxury men’s grooming market.
What attracted you to stocking Dreadnought and why does it suit your store?
The quality, styling of the packaging and the attitude it brings!
What can we expect from your store in the future?
That is a great question, the only permanent answer is that you can always expect high quality luxury products at the best value with exceptional service either in our stores, on the phone or using our website. You can also expect that we are always searching for the best of the best and sometimes we find this out through our customers and of course the trade shows. We sell nothing I would not use for myself!
And finally, in your opinion what makes a man, manly?
I am a retired officer from the most elite of our US Army’s Special Operations, I think a manly guy is a guy who can go out and do some very demanding and physical things but who can also identify and appreciate the luxury of quality grooming items, nice Italian sheets, Egyptian Cotton towels, quality down duvet and pillow. And of course a DUX bed and a nice car, in that order!
Dreadnought would like to thank Mr. Jarest for his time today and salute him for his dedicated service to the US Army and for also stocking our products. You can find his stores in Southern Pines and Raleigh, NC. Or why not check out their website HERE.
