Dreadnought is proud to announce that one of American’s premier men’s grooming and lifestyle clubs, The Gents Place, is now stocking our “manly” range of fine grooming products. We caught up with Ben Davis, the owner of The Gents Place, for a chin wag and a pint of warm English beer.
The Gents Place looks great, how did it all start?
The Gents Place was born out of an ordinary guy’s frustration at getting his haircut at the same lousy discount men’s hair chains every month. I hated getting my haircut so much, I would get my haircut twice as short as I wanted just so I wouldn’t have to go back for twice as long! I knew there had to be a better way, saw some other entrepreneurs trying to build something different, but ultimately ended up designing and building my own concept to make sure it addressed and fixed everything I thought was wrong in the men’s grooming industry.
What makes Gents different from other men’s grooming outlets?
Wow, there are so many things! I would probably start with the ability to make appointments online 24/7, receive text message confirmations (no more annoying phone calls) and be reminded via email when you get so busy and forget to get your haircut. Next, our men’s grooming and lifestyle retail offering is bar none the best in the men’s grooming industry. We carry an assortment of the hardest to find and most luxurious men’s fragrances, cufflinks, neckware (ties & bowties,) watches, shaving and grooming products, and many other lifestyle goods and accessories. Lastly, I am a self-admitted service FANATIC; we truly care about our clients and members and have a laser-like focus to ensure they are happy each and every visit to The Gents Place.
What attracted you to stocking Dreadnought and why does it suit Gents?
Many people don’t realize that I actually test every single grooming product that we stock at The Gents Place. So, I went through an entire tub of Dreadnought shaving cream and aftershave during my travels over the last few months, and I decided that this would be a fantastic addition to our portfolio of premium men’s shaving products.
What can we expect from Gents in the future?
We are embarking on the building of a first-of-its-kind membership-based online community that the men’s grooming and lifestyle industry has never seen! Be looking for this to develop over the rest of 2012. Also, we will be diligently working on improving the client and Gents employee experiences by introducing new technologies and amenities in our clubs. And, of course, we will be opening more locations over the coming years!
And finally, In your opinion what makes a man, manly?
These days, a “manly man” actually takes care of himself, but without looking like he is trying too hard. Manly men do things intentionally, whether it’s a perfectly shaven clean face, a meticulously edged up goatee, or he’s rocking the beard but with purpose and well executed style. The days are gone when it was cool not to take care of yourself; those guys are the “sissies” in 2012 and beyond
